What is INFILL DEVELOPMENT? INFILL DEVELOPMENT is the development of new dwellings on vacant or under-utilised land in existing urban areas.

In Queensland for example the Government has set

 INFILL TARGETS for all Councils in South East

 Queensland. At least 60% of all new dwellings are 

expected to come from infill development over the next

 20 years (by 2041).


That equates to:


An extra 176,800 infill dwellings for the Brisbane City Council area (7000+ a year);

An extra 53,700 infill dwellings for the Sunshine Coast area (2000+ a year);

An extra 48,200 infill dwellings for the Moreton Bay area (1900+ a year).

The Gold Coast, Ipswich and Toowoomba regions have significant infill targets as well.


Not all of this growth can come from medium-rise

 apartments, it must also include LOW-RISE INFILL 

DEVELOPMENT, like granny flats, duplexes and 

townhouses.
